I am Kaishan Kong 孔凯珊. I am currently a professor in language and culture teaching. Coming from the south part of China, I speak Cantonese in addition to Mandarin and English. I also learned Japanese and French in the last decade, but am pushing myself to relearn these languages.
I hold a PhD in Second Languages and Cultures Education from the University of Minnesota in the U.S., an MA in Intercultural Communication from the University of Sheffield in the U.K, and a BA in English Education from Zhanjiang Normal University in China.
I have been fortunate to receive a good education and to travel internationally for professional and personal reasons. As a language learner and cultural explorer, I came to realize that being able to speak a new language is not equal to knowing the target culture. I am dedicated to integrate language and culture in my roles as a professor, teacher educator and a life-long learner.
My research interests include second langauge acquisition, intercultural communication, study abroad and teacher education. My publications appear in both academic journals and book chapters. My research interests are continuously inspired by my colleagues, students and through teaching.
